A lower eyelid surgery or lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure which is performed to remove the excess skin and fat, improve the shape and reduce the wrinkles from the lower eyelids. Many people witness puffy and sagging eyelids due to heredity or aging which makes them look worn down or tired. With rising success rate in the recent decades has made lower blepharoplasty a very common and one of the most successful surgeries in recent times and is popular among both men and women. The procedure is suitable for people at least 30 years of age who have developed fat and sags of skin in the lower eyelid area and the procedure is usually combined with a laser resurfacing of the eyelids to reduce wrinkles and lines.

The main reason for the puff and saggy skin in the lower eyelid area is due to excess fat and skin deposit and edema. The most important element involved in the lower eyelid surgery is the amount of skin and fat to be removed which is dependent on the specialization of the surgeon. The right surgeon would know how much skin and fat is to be removed from the lower eyelid area. A lower blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive plastic surgery. The surgeon would make an incision along the eyelash line through which the excess fat, loose muscles and skin is removed and the cut is put together with stitches.

A lower eyelid surgery is carried out as an outpatient surgery and the procedure is done under general anesthesia. After the surgery the patient would have stitches in the lower eyelids which would be there for at least a week and swelling, bruising and pain is common immediately following the surgery which would reduce with time and proper medication. The patient should take proper precautionary methods following the surgery and follow the prescribed medication in order to avoid any infection or complication. The patient would return to their normal activities in a week or two following the surgery and the scars would evade with time leaving with improved looks and confidence.
